Although manticores are equipped with rows of fangs and razor-edged claws, their deadliest weapons are their arched tails. A manticore's tail can pierce even the most durable armor, and many manticores lace their tail spikes with a deadly venom.[2]
Theories of the manticore's creation tend to involve drunken mages and spells gone awry. Some alchemists who have managed to study a manticore's venom believe it to have magical properties, though there is no concrete evidence.[3]
The manticores of Al-Kalim are erroneously believed to be sphinxes.[4]
Notable manticores[]
- Clubtail - A cunning, old manticore who has issued a challenged to any adventurers willing to take it: enter his maze and receive the fabled Gem of Change. However, he actually had no such gem, and instead killed those tricked by his challenge and stole their own treasures.[5]
